house updates

I'm back with some house updates!

Whenever I was home for Thanksgiving I discovered this treasure in mom's attic. It was love at first sight. I asked her if I could have it and she graciously agreed =) It was my great grandfather's. I need to e-mail my aunt & ask her what it was particularly used for and what year it's from. Can't wait!

Please excuse my unfinished baseboards. That is on the due to list for the kitchen! =)

This is a peek into our living room. The little blue/turquoise bird you see sitting on top of the books, I bought at the dollar tree store and spray painted it. You will come to know that I'm in love with this color of spray paint... seriously! The basket and tray are thrift store finds.

Here is my business cards for Contemporary Cottage Designs-- love them! This is only the back of the card. Love the seashell too. I bought it for .25! =)

The other side of the buffet. I love purplish pink and gray together.

Do you spot the the candlesticks? They were brass {thrift store find} & I spray painted them with the color I'm in love with! haha Thanks so much Aunt Mary for the idea! I love it!

same spray paint haha These birds are actually salt & pepper shakers. I bought them at Pier 1 for--- $3.00 for the pair! The birds are sitting on my black open shelving in the kitchen. My white Correlle dishes are to the right of them.

If you haven't noticed, we re-painted the kitchen and living room the same shade of gray.

Whenever I bought this basket I loved it. {thrift store find} That was when we thought we were going to do with black or white counter tops. Once we had the butcher block counter top installed, the basket sort of got lost and blended in the the counter tops. So.....

I spray painted it! :c)

Yes... I spray painted this bottle the same color as well. {thrift store find}

Here is a another peek of our living room! Do you spot the bottle on the shelf? I plan on buying another shelf and placing it underneath so I can put more pictures up.

FYI: I bought all of the frames at thrift stores & spray painted them glossy black. I bought six frames for less than $3. Check your local Habitat. On Saturday & Sunday everything is 50% off and Clothes are $1 in my area.

For the picture mats, I cheated ;) I bought a piece of poster board for .99 and cut it out to fit the picture frame & simply taped the picture to the middle of the frame. Easy peasy! Since the frames are up high, nobody would ever know. Gotta love it.

How do you like the curtains I made? Thanks to Young House Love for spotting them first & giving a tutorial on how to make them without sewing!

The buffet also still needs hardware. We have it, just haven't installed it yet.
I definitely need to show some before pictures of the livng room. To be continued!

  1. That is the coolest cupboard! And it was in the family (that makes it even more special).
Did you paint it - or was it like that when you found it? Thrift stores are my favourite for frames... you never know what you can find and always a little different. Beautiful home!

  2. Gabrielle,

Thank you so much!! :) I didn't paint it or touch it at all, it's all original. Isn't that so cool? The blue color sort of has a chalk texture, when you rub it comes off on your hands. I would love to know the story behind that as well!

I love thrift stores for frames as well, so much cheaper than regular stores! Have a blessed weekend!
